SMYRNA - Granville Arthur "Otto" Rampmeyer passed away at home on Mon., Dec. 2, 2013. He was born on Feb. 11, 1935, in Ridgely, Md., to the late Andy and Mildred (Cross) Rampmeyer. Graduating from Ridgely High School in 1954, "Ott" as he was known by his schoolmates, was a fierce competitor in soccer and baseball, and a member of the school's 1951-1952 championship soccer team. He was a member of the National Guard and served in the U.S. Army as a driver in the Headquarters Battery of the 750th Field Artillery Battalion in Munich, Germany. For most of Otto's career, he was a master offset printer, taking pride in his work for firms from New York to North Carolina, but he worked mainly in the Delmarva area. He was an official Little League Umpire for 19 years and was known for his fair and impartial rulings. In later years, Otto was active in the Delaware Lyme Disease and Brain Injury Support Associations. Otto was well-known on Delmarva as a collector, flea marketer, and original American picker. He loved his family, Christmas, and sports, especially soccer, baseball, and football. Otto was a lifelong Methodist. He is survived by his wife, Ann (Sweetman) Rampmeyer; his son, Michael Rampmeyer and his companion, Amy James, of Newport News, Va.; his son Mark Rampmeyer of Long Island, N.Y.; his step-daughter, Connie Connolly and her husband Gary, of Denton, Md.; his brother, Charles and his companion Anna Mae Walls, of Ridgely; his brother, Tommy and his wife Nellie, of Trappe, Md.; and his brother, Pete and his wife Frances, of Easton, Md.; his step-son, Ron Roland of Stevensville, Md.; his granddaughter, Casey Burnett and her husband Chris, of Newark, Del.; his granddaughter, Allie Floyd and her husband René, of Weatherford, Texas; three great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Tuffy. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert; his grandson, Jack; and his dogs, Shy and Buddy. A Memorial Service will be 1 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 14, 2013 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, Newark, DE 19711, or First State Animal Center & SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle Camden, DE 19934.
