Grace D. Hoover

DOVER - Grace D. Hoover went home to be with the Lord, Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Grace was born, June 7, 1920, in Chestertown, Maryland, to the late, Horace & Grace (Robey) Derrick; then raised in Towson, Md. before spending most of her life in Rehoboth. She was a graduate of Towson High School class of 1938. She had owned a seashell shop in Rehoboth for a few years; and was also a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, in Rehoboth for many years, where she sang in the choir. Grace was an avid fossil & shell collector, and also enjoyed collecting paperweights. She loved nature & feeding wildlife, especially her squirrels. After relocating to Dover, she became a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Horace F. Derrick; and her son, Robert B. Koch. Grace is survived by her son, William C. Hoover, of Greensboro, Md.; two daughters, Nancy Schmidt, of Lewes; and Catherine Wilcutts, with whom she resided; five grandchildren, William B. Hoover, of Woodside; Susan J. Martin & husband, Mike, of Lewes; Robert Hoover, & wife, Hazel, of Louisiana; Perry Friend, Jr. of Milford; and Martin Schmidt, Jr. & wife, Pam, of Milton; seven great-grandchildren, Michael R. Martin, of Texas; Brandon J. Martin, of Lewes; Mackenzie G. Schmidt & Parker K. Schmidt, and Miranda Rose Schmidt, all of Milton; Brittany & Cory Hoover , of Louisiana; and a great-great-grandson, Trenton, nephew Robert Derrick & family, of Laurel, Md.; and her best friend of 35 years, Millie Melvin, of Dover. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 South State Street, Dover, DE., where family and friends may gather a half hour before. Burial will take place privately in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica, DE. Condolences may be sent via: www.pippinfuneralhome.com
