Gordon Massey Jr., 80

DOVER - Gordon Massey Jr. of Dover died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, in Capitol Healthcare. He was 80.

Mr. Massey was born Sept. 7, 1927, in Dover, to the late Gordon Massey Sr. and Esther Pennewell Roeder Massey.

Mr. Massey served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a frogman.

He worked as a sales manager for Sears Department Store in both the downtown store and at the Dover Mall. He retired in the 1990s.

Mr. Massey was on the board of directors for the Sewell Biggs Museum.

He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Maple Dale Country Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Hope Massey; his brother, George Massey; and his sister, Frances Appleby.

Mr. Massey is survived in death by his wife of 13 years, Mary Elyn Marker Massey of Dover; two nephews, Gordon Massey and his significant other Gretchen Larimore of Dover and George C. Massey of Dover; two nieces, Tucker Massey Turnbull and her husband Kerry of Dover and Suzan Valentine Voshell of Dover; and several grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Christ Episcopal Church, 501 S. State St., Dover.

Arrangements by Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Christ Episcopal Church, 501 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901.
