Gloria Leah Phelps

Gloria Leah Phelps, 74

EDINBURG, Texas - Gloria Leah Phelps of Edinburg, formerly of Preston, Md., died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2006, in Edinburg Regional Hospital. She was 74.

Mrs. Phelps was born in Cambridge, Md., daughter of the late Ralph Sr. and Gladys Murphy.

She was a graduate of Cambridge High School.

Mrs. Phelps was a bookkeeper until retiring in 1985.

She loved gardening, bowling and in her later years she enjoyed traveling with her husband across the country.

Mrs. Phelps was active in St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Denton, Md. and the United Methodist Women's Circle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Murphy Jr.; and two sisters, Hilda Brannock and Betty Miller.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Eugene V. Phelps; a daughter and a son-in-law, Cheryl and Dean Voorhees of Denton; a son, Larry Phelps of Bethlehem, Md.; a brother and a sister-in-law, Alton and Roberta Murphy of Cambridge; six grandchildren, Eric Voorhees and his wife Stacy and Jeff Voorhees, all of Denton, John Phelps, Tracy Phelps and Jimmy Phelps, all of Ridgely, Md., and Laura Phelps of Easton, Md.; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Samaritan House, 12 N. Fifth St., Denton, MD 21629.
