Gladys W. Smith, 95

LAUREL - Gladys W. Smith of Laurel passed of natural causes away, after a short illness, Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, in the Seaford Center. She was 95.

Mrs. Smith was a loving homemaker. She retired from working for many of the garment factories in the area.

She loved to read and enjoyed flowers. She will be remembered as a loving mother, especially during the holidays.

Mrs. Smith was a past member of the former Epworth Church for 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Mary Hearn; her first husband, Dawson Wilkerson, in 1953; her second husband, Thomas Smith; two grandchildren; and numerous brothers and sisters.

She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Nina and Raymond Glerum of Laurel, Betty and Edward Pentoney of Seaford and Janet Chambers of Laurel; two sisters-in law, Norma Hearn of Delmar and Josephine Hearn of Georgetown; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. today in the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery, Laurel. The Rev. Jerry Denton will officiate.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 1138 Parsons Road, Salisbury, MD 21803.
