CENTREVILLE, Md. - Gladys Mary Brown of Centreville went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 7, 2007, in Centreville. She died peacefully at the age of 86.
She was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Burrisville, to the late Mary and James Tilghman.
Gladys was educated in Burrisville schools, and was employed by the Honorary Judge Hackett Turner, Reyburn Farms, Louise Bennett, Ann Price, Beulah Jumps and Jack Hollingsworth.
She enjoyed talking, meeting people, cooking, and baking white potato pies and chocolate chip cookies. She also loved coconut cakes.
Gladys was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church. She loved praising the Lord.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, one son, two nephews and one grandson.
She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, John Brown of Easton, and James Brown of Penns Grove, N.J.; five daughters, Sarah Deaton of Baltimore, Adelena Brown of Centreville, Betty Wilson of Chestertown, Verlena Wilson of Fayetteville, N.C., and Rosa Chase of Centreville; one daughter-in-law, Bille Brown of Indianapolis; 14 grandchildren, Virginia, Christina, Sheila, Shirlena, Charlene, Gidget, Tammy, Michael, Joe (Heather), Trina, Nathan Jr., Tasha and Andre; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a special friend that was like a son, Eugene Barrett; a special niece, Bertie Baynard; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Burrisville, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Mount Zion United Methodist Church cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Easton.
