CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Gladys L. Lucas of Chestertown died peacefully Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, in the Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 79.
Mrs. Lucas was born on a little creek off the Potomac River in Walnut Point, Va. She and her family moved to Baltimore after the death of her father. During World War II they moved from Baltimore to the Eastern Shore and settled in Chestertown.
She worked at Bonnett's Clothing Store for many years.
She enjoyed traveling, family events, ceramics and quilting.
Mrs. Lucas was a 50-year member of the Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 36 Ladies Auxiliary, the Homemakers Club and Christ United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, James Roland Lucas; three sons, Richard "Shady" Lane, Larry "Buddy" Lane and Stephen Lane, all of Chestertown; a stepdaughter, Margaret LeGrand of Virginia; four grandchildren, Drew, Erek, Jennifer and Jeanette; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Booth of Virginia and Marie Gustafson of Chestertown.
Graveside services were Tuesday in the Church Hill Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Kent and Queen Anne's Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 126, Chestertown, MD 21620.
Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Chestertown.
