CHURCH HILL - Gladys Holden Green of Church Hill died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at Chester River Hospital, Chestertown, surrounded by her family. She was 89.
She was born Oct. 13, 1918, in Marydel, daughter of the late John Wesley and Clara (Faulkner) Holden. She was the oldest daughter of eight children, with four brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Green was in the graduating class of 1937 at Sudlersville High School.
She married Sudler Green on March 4, 1938. They were married for 40 years, until his death in September 1978. They raised their family on farms in Church Hill and Centreville.
Mrs. Green enjoyed meeting people and was a good salesperson. She sold Avon, Dutchmaid and was a Tupperware representative for many years, attending many conventions in various states.
Mrs. Green is survived by three daughters, Gladys "Trudy" Griffin and her husband Harold of Church Hill, Hilda Crew of New Caney, Texas, and Mary Wheeler of Middletown, Del.; one son, Rodger Green and his wife Barbara Jean of Church Hill; two sisters, Mabel Mumford-Pautz of Chestertown and Ida Mae Custy of New Jersey; a special friend, Patty Galloway; 13 grandchildren, with Carol Ann Griffin and Kathy Gustafson being especially attentive to her the last few years of her life; 27 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Church Hill United Methodist Church, where friends and family may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Interment will be held at the Church Hill Cemetery.
The family is accepting flowers, however contributions may be made to Church Hill United Methodist Church, 508 Main St., Church Hill, MD 21623; or to the Church Hill Volunteer Fire Department, 316 Main St., Church Hill, MD 21623.
