Gertrude M. Moore, 85

DOVER - Gertrude M. Moore, known to most as Sherry, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at the age of 85. Sherry was born May 23, 1923, to the late Harry C. and Gertrude B. McSherry, and was a lifetime resident of Dover. She worked for the DuPont Company for four years, until her marriage in 1948. As an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Sherry and her husband Bob served as chaperones for the Bell Choir for several years. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Sherry was an avid golfer and a marshal at the LPGA McDonald's Championship for many years. Sherry was recently recognized for her 39 years of voluntary service at the Governor's House in Dover, and was privileged to serve under eight governors. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Moore Sr., in 1991. She is survived by three sons, Robert S. Moore Jr. and wife Betty Joan of Surfside Beach, S.C., Douglas A. Moore and wife Carol of Felton, David C. Moore and wife Mary of Hockessin; daughter, Karen M. Jeffries and husband Curtis of Severna Park, Md.; seven grandchildren, Andrew Moore and wife Julie, Kristen Moore, Angela Klenk and husband Mark, Deana Rivera and husband Roland, Katie and Lara Jeffries, Robert Hicks; and great-granddaughter, Lily A. Moore. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 S. State St., Dover. A visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover. Interment in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901 or to the American Heart Association, 1151 Walker Rd., Dover, DE 19904. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at torbertfuneral.com.
