Gertrude L. Hudson, 85

MILFORD - Gertrude L. Hudson, of Milford, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 85. Mrs. Hudson was born on Aug. 2, 1923, in Laurel, daughter of the late Herman and Bertha (Culver) Smith. She was employed for 35 years as a freezer manager with Burris Foods in Milford, retiring in 1989. After retirement, Gertrude worked serving lunch food items to the public on Saturdays at Wilson's Auction in Lincoln. Gertrude enjoyed gardening and loved all the special times spent with her family, particularly at her favorite time of year the Christmas holidays. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Milford where she was active with the Women's Association. Mrs. Hudson was a member of the A.A.R.P. and the Milford Senior Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wansel I. "Pete" Hudson; a daughter, Patricia A. Bower; four brothers, Paul Smith, Edward Smith, Donald Smith and James Smith; and three sisters, Madeline Hastings, Thelma Smarte Larimore and Jo-Anna Bailey. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, George "Sonny" and Kay Hudson and Keith and Terri Hudson, all of Milford; six grandchildren, Kenneth Brown, Carol Mitchell, Kim Pierson, Tim Hudson, Megan Hudson and Sean Hudson; seven great-grandchildren; and one great -great granddaughter. Services were held Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at the Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford. Burial was in Henlopen Memorial Park in Milton. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 SE Front St., Milford, DE 19963 or to the Milford Public Library, 11 SE Front St., Milford, DE 19963.
