Gertie Gingerich, 78

HARTLY - Gertie Gingerich, of Hartly died Sunday, March 16, 2008, in her home surrounded by her family. She was 78.

Mrs. Gingerich was born Sept. 24, 1929, in Kansas, to the late David and Cassie Miller.

She worked for Playtex as a machine operator, retiring in 1991 after 20 years of service.

She enjoyed quilting.

Mrs. Gingerich attended Central Church Mennonite Church, Dover.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Henry J. Gingerich, on Nov. 22, 2004; and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Gingerich, in 2007.

Mrs. Gingerich is survived by her children, Rosa M. Yoder of Dover, Barbara E. Cheslock and her husband Michael of Marydel, Enos L. Gingerich and his wife Frances of Smyrna, and Jacob H. Gingerich and his wife Diane, John Henry Gingerich, David H. Gingerich and his wife Connie, Ruthann Gingerich, Willis E. Gingerich and his wife Rhonda and Miriam E. Sommers and her husband Barry, all of Hartly; two sisters, Elma Mast of Loraysville, Pa., and Susanne Miller of Dover; four brothers, Enos D. Miller and David D. Miller, both of Dover, Samuel D. Miller of Vevay, Ind., and Roman D. Miller of Pittsville, Md.; 17 grandchildren, Jonathan and Daniel Dale, Michael Cheslock IV, Jacob H. Gingerich Jr., Tiffany Strauss, Shannon Gingerich, Wendy, Susan and David Gingerich Jr., Christine Farrow, Christopher and Ryan Gingerich and Barry Sommers II, Heather Sommers, Ricky Leager, Christa Roland and Daniel Willy; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Central Mennonite Church, 220 W. Dennys Road, Dover.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.

Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Central Mennonite Church, 220 W. Dennys Road, Dover, DE 19904; or Vitas Hospice, 802 N. Dupont Highway, Suite 5, Milford, DE 19963.
