Geraldine K. 'Gerry' Dierker, 80
ROCK HALL, Md. - Geraldine K. "Gerry" Dierker of Rock Hall died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, in the Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. She was 80.
Born in Rock Hall, she was the daughter of the late William and Marietta (Baker) Sterling.
Mrs. Dierker was a waitress, and also farmed with her husband John for many years.
In 1965, she and her husband opened John and Gerry's Store, which was at McClain's Corner, now known as Dierker's Corner, and operated the store and restaurant until her retirement in 1988.
In her retirement, Mrs. Dierker enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
For many years, she enjoyed bowling and reading, and also enjoyed traveling until her health would no longer allow long trips.
Most importantly, she loved and enjoyed her family.
Mrs. Dierker was a member of the Wesley Chapel Church, Rock Hall.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her husband of 631/2 years, John R. Dierker Jr.; three daughters, Nancy Miller of Chestertown, Sue Ann Elliott of Rock Hall and Dorothy Hepborn of Chestertown; one son, John R. Dierker III of Rock Hall; three sisters, Eileen Colvin of West Palm Beach, Fla., Audrey Tobilio of Baltimore and Thelma Shriley of Rock Hall; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Fellows Helfenbein & Newman Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where friends and family may call after 11 a.m.
Interment will be in the Wesley Cemetery, Rock Hall.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory to the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Co. Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 577, Rock Hall, MD 21661; or the Kent & Queen Anne's Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 126, Chestertown, MD 21620.
