Gerald N. "Jerry" Lane, Sr., age 84, of Dover, DE passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024 with loving family by his side. He was born on September 22, 1939 in Wilmington, DE to the late Norwood and Rose "Reno" Lane. The family moved to Dover and Jerry attended and graduated from Dover High School, Class of 1957, where he met the love of his life and future wife Jeraldine Hutchins.
After graduation he worked with his father selling produce at Lane's Farm Market, North of Dover. During that time he was also a member of Cheswold Fire Company. He then began his career in construction with Beiser/Del Homes of Dover. Subsequently he became a general contractor building homes for his own company. He then became a member of the Carpenters Union Local 626 of New Castle, DE where he made many good friends and retired in the late 90's. In retirement, he established Lane's Garden Fresh Farm in Little Creek as well as tending to his honey business. Jerry had a special love and passion for his fruit stand and meeting and greeting his customers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Louis Lane in 1970.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jeraldine H. Lane, their three children, Debra L. Meredith (Brian) of Joppa, MD; Gerald "Jerry" Lane, Jr. (Norma) of Felton, DE and Karen L. Fitzwater (Frank) of Felton, DE, and a special nephew, Jeffrey David Lane. He was "PopPop" to ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 am, Saturday August 31st, 2024, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, Delaware. Friends may visit two hours prior, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
Interment will be held at Sharon Hills Memorial Park.
