MILFORD - After an extended illness, Gerald "Jerry" Lee Williams Sr. claimed his mansion that Jesus prepared for him; he went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 62 years old. Jerry was treated for diabetes and complications of the disease for 12 years at the VA Hospital in Elsmere, where he received excellent care. He was attended by many doctors in several clinics; one of his favorites was Dr. William Jaffee, endocrinologist. His primary doctor was Dr. Ralph Capaldo at the Dover VA Clinic, who along with the staff, always provided professional and compassionate care. Jerry and Dr. Capaldo discussed sports, especially their favorite teams: the Dallas Cowboys and the Phillies. For the last five weeks, Jerry received special and loving care from Delaware Hospice. He was blessed by all who diagnosed and treated his many medical challenges. In his healthy, younger years, he was involved with the Milford Little League as a player and as a team coach for 14 years. He enjoyed running in marathons, playing tennis and handball, but baseball was always his first love. He was predeceased by his beloved grandmother, Edith "Granny" Allen; grandfather, Floyd Allen; mother, Ruthanna Allen Armstrong; stepfather, Joe Armstrong; brother, Joey Armstrong; and a special aunt, Jeanette Wilcutts. Jerry is loved by and will be greatly missed by his wife, Carolyn Horvat-Williams; daughter, Denise; son, Jerry, Jr.; sister, Sandy Freeman; brothers, Donnie Dickerson and Kenny Armstrong; stepson, Gregory J. Hayt; step great-grandsons, Geoffrey and Bradley Hawkins; step great-granddaughter, Shawna Hawkins; aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and his Avenue Church family. We are comforted knowing Jerry is free from pain and that he's at peace in God's Holy presence. Monetary donations to honor Jerry may be made to Avenue U.M. Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford, DE 19963, where he was a member; Milford Community Food Pantry, c/o Avenue (where he use to volunteer), and Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover. Burial is private.
