Gerald L. 'Jerry' Saunders, 67
SECRETARY - Gerald L. "Jerry" Saunders, 67, of Secretary, died July 14, 2009. He was born on March 1, 1942, in Cambridge. Mr. Saunders worked for Dupont in Seaford for forty two years, retiring in 2002. He later returned to Dupont and retired for a second time in January 2009. He was a former associate member of Hurlock American Legion Post #243 and a lifetime member of Secretary Volunteer Fire Company. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Saunders Dietrich of Secretary and her husband Frank Ellsworth; a grandson, Gerald William Dietrich of Secretary; his long time companion, Barbara Kail of Secretary; a sister, Millie Cusick of Vienna and her husband Greg; a niece, Jerri Lynn Hughes of Vienna; a nephew, Wes Dukes of Vienna; a brother-in-law, Joe Bounds of Allen and his wife Shirley; Kail Baumgartner and her husband Mark of Hurlock. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Rae Saunders on Dec. 16, 1978; his mother, Emily R. "Sis" Rhodes Meredith; his father, John "Tootie" W. Rhodes Jr.; a brother, J. Wesley Rhodes III; and his grandmother and grandfather, Carrie and Roland Saunders. Funeral services were Friday, July 17, at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market. Mr. David Tolley officiated. Interment followed in East New Market Cemetery.
