GEORGETOWN - George William Cahill, 53, of Georgetown, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at home. He was born in Washington, D.C., the son of Mary Giebel Cahill of Washington, D.C. and the late Donald Cahill. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mary (Lyons) Cahill; two children, Carey Murray and her husband Matthew of Georgetown, Kelly Cahill and her boyfriend, Dylan Conaway of Georgetown; two sisters, Mary Beth Grantham and her husband, John, Jane Newstedt and her husband Steve, both of Maryland; and two brothers, Raymond Cahill of Maryland and Martin Cahill and his wife Linda of Virginia; one grandchild, Chase Murray; a granddaughter on the way; as well as many other loving family members. He was past President of the Georgetown Little League, Treasurer of the Sussex Central Pop Warner, started the Pat Knight Little League Series, Treasurer for the Senior Softball World Series, the Delaware District # 3 Staff and a past member of the Georgetown Town Council. He helped with the Little Miss Georgetown, Miss Georgetown, Miss Sussex County and Miss Delaware Pageants. He was an accountant who loved numbers and problem solving. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Catholic burial will be held privately at a later date at Union Cemetery, Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to one of the organizations that George was affiliated with.
