GEORGETOWN - George Lee Truitt passed away peacefully at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital on Friday Nov. 2, 2018
George was born on Sept. 14, 1926 in Seaford to the late James and Elizabeth (Sullivan) Truitt. He worked for Vineyard Shipyard in Milford during WWII before returning to work and retire from DuPont. He also owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Georgetown, Truitt's Radiator Services, and Truitt's TV and Appliance Service, in addition to farming during the years.
He was also a member of Georgetown Community Bible Church, Odd Fellows Union Lodge #3, and built and raced a stock car numbered 26. George also loved to fish and travel with his wife Anna.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Hudson Truitt; second wife, Anna Mae Neal Truitt; brothers, John W. and Isaac Phillip Truitt; sister, Betty Bolton; step-son, Olen Neal Jr.; and step-daughter, Norma Jean Brewer.
George is survived by his son, Richard Wayne (Betty) Truitt; daughter, Virginia (Glendon) Chmielewski; step-children, Wayne (Linda) Neal, Carol (Bruce Stasi) Heck, James (Carolyn) Neal; daughter-in-law, Melva Neal; caregiver, Angie Ward; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 12, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, DE 19947, where friends may call after 12 p.m. Interment will follow at Carey's Camp Cemetery.
