George H. Straughn

TOWNSEND - George H. Straughn passed away on Sun., Mar. 15, 2015 at home with his wife by his side. Mr. Straughn was born Feb. 9, 1945 in Chester, Pa., the son of the late Harvey Whaley Straughn and Viola E. Little. He was a veteran serving in the US Army. He retired after nearly 40 years working at Reichold-Dow Chemicals. After retirement he worked at the Smyrna Sporting Goods Store for 6 years. He enjoyed gardening, farming, trapping, hunting and growing Christmas trees, and was a Little League Baseball Coach. Most of all he enjoyed wildlife. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Charles D. Straughn and Kenneth H. Straughn; sisters, Margaret L. Voss and Patricia Bradburn; and brother-in-law, Lawrence Voss. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of 45 years; two brothers, Arthur T. Straughn and his wife Barbara and Harvey W. Straughn and his wife Barbara, all of Townsend; one sister, Kathleen E. Baker and her husband Eugene of Smyrna; sister-in-law, Wanda Straughn of Clayton; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; and his close friends, Mike Chelf, Paul Medesto and Marvin Thomas. He will be sadly missed by all. Services will be privately held at the convenience of the family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ashley and Tiffany of Delaware Hospice for their compassion and support.
