George C. Dutton, 83
George C. Dutton of Middletown passed away Friday, May 11, 2007, in his home with his loving family by his side. He was 83.
Mr. Dutton was born in Mount Pleasant, son of the late Charles P. and Lucy (Stevenson) Dutton.
He worked for Miller's Furniture in Newport, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service.
Mr. Dutton was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan and enjoyed fishing and spending many summers at the beach. He loved to play bingo, cards and especially enjoyed playing a variety of the Delaware lottery scratch-off tickets. Spending time with his family was one of his greatest joys.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ella Dutton, in December 1977; his second wife of 27 years, Mildred Harper Dutton, on April 18, 2006; six brothers, Howard, Paul, Roger, Wilson, Donald and Stidham; and a sister, Bea Haas.
He is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, William C. Jr. and Beatrice Harper of Newark and Richard F. and Cindy Harper of Florida; four devoted daughters and care providers and three sons-in-law, Millie and Bill O'Neal, Barbara and John Sinsabaugh Sr. and Betty Breeding, all of Middletown and Joan and Dickie Reed of Georgia; a brother and a sister-in-law, William and Eleanor Dutton of Wilmington; a granddaughter who Mr. and Mrs. Dutton raised, Kristina Sweetman of Middletown; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Townsend Cemetery.
