Whitney Mott, 91
Genevieve (Gene) Whitney Mott peacefully passed away on Sunday October 10, 2021. Gene's passing was just short of five months after the love of her life, Fred Mott passed on May 21, 2021. She was born August 15, 1930 near Belmont in Western New York. She was born to the late Tillie and Clifford Whitney.
Gene was amazingly creative, great with kids, and a most loving and considerate person. She had an exceptional ability to work with children. Gene taught for several years at the Old Dover Kindergarten and afterwards at the Little School in Dover. Gene also taught in the Capitol School District at South Dover Elem and also at the then, William Henry Middle School. Her love of teaching inspired some of her children and grandchildren to go into teaching.
Gene was a devoted life member of Christ Episcopal Church, served on the Alter Guild, taught Sunday School and was Christ Church Woman of the Year by Church Women United. Gene always chose to give generously of herself and her talents to Christ Church and its parish family.
She was past president of the Delaware Association of Conservation Districts Auxiliary. Past President of the Potpourri Garden Club and arranged workshops for decorating Delaware Hospice Christmas trees.
Gene loved everything about the Arts, especially flower arranging and painting. Her love of the Arts was passed down to all three of her daughters and grandchildren. She was the "artistic director" to Fred's love of carving wood decoys. All of Fred's decoys had the touch of Gene's artistic hands on them. For that the family is grateful.
In addition to her parents; Gene was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick T. Mott; and sister, Helen Winterhalter; and sister-in-law, Hilda Whitney.
Gene is survived by her brothers, Robert (Hilda) Whitney, and Bud (Carol) Whitney; daughters, Susan (Bob) Bartley of Lewes, Becki (Mark) Mott-Lynn of Lewes, Carrie (Dean) Geyer of Milford; grandchildren, Michele Bartley, Whitney (Sean) Mott-Lynn Murray, Hannah, Tillie, Bonard, and Camille Geyer; and great-granddaughter, Hadleigh Mott Murray.
Services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday October 22, 2021 at Christ Episcopal Church, 523. S. State St., Dover, DE 19901. Interment will follow at Christ Church Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers the family suggests making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, or Christ Episcopal Church, Dover.
