Gay Cloward Jones, 75

WILMINGTON - Gay Cloward Jones, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, in the home of her daughter, Laura Enterline MacKelcan, of Avondale, Pa. She was 75. Gay was born in Quirigua, Guatemala, to Col. Thomas MacDonough Cloward and Ann Gillespie Cloward. At that time, her father was a supervisor for the United Fruit Company. Both preceded her in death. Her brother, Tustin, died as a child. She was a graduate of the National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C. and the University of Delaware, where she received a degree in education. She also received her Masters Degree in Business Administration. In addition to raising four children, Gay devoted her life to the education of others. She was an elementary school teacher, the director of a camp for handicapped youths, and program director for St. Anthony's Senior Center in Wilmington. She was recently inducted into the "Quarter Century Club" for her years of service as a Senior Guide at Winterthur Museum and Country Estate. A life long learner, Gay studied to become a "specialist" in base metals, prints and carpets. While she was passionate about her work at the museum, her proudest professional accomplishment was procuring from the State of Delaware, an unused school building and land at the cost of $1 that was then renovated and used as a summer camp called "Camp Lenape"; a United Cerebral Palsy summer camp for special needs children in Kent County, Delaware. In addition to her daughter, Laura, and her husband, Dave, she is survived by her son, Tom Enterline and daughter-in-law Robin, of Blowing Rock, N.C., Paul G. Enterline, of Georgetown, and Daniel J. Enterline, currently stationed in Iraq. She is also survived by her ex-husband and friend, Wes Jones, of Wilmington, her first husband and father of her children, G. Daniel Enterline Jr., of Dover; four grandchildren; many beloved cousins; and numerous life long friends. A celebration of life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at Kennett Friends Meeting House, Sickle Road, Kennett Square, PA 19311. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to Child Inc., 507 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809-2177. Arrangements by Chandler Funeral Homes & Crematory.
