Frederick H. Zimmerli

SELLERVILLE, Pa. - Frederick (Fred) H. Zimmerli of Sellersville, Pa., formally of Ambler, Pa., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at The Community at Rockhill, Sellersville, Pa.
He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Joyner) Zimmerli and the late Jane (Voorhees) Zimmerli.
Fred was born in New Brunswick, N.J. He was the son of the late Dr. Adolph Zimmerli and the late Elsa Maria (Egger) Zimmerli.
Fred grew up in Highland Park, N.J. He graduated from Highland Park Senior HS. Fred furthered his education graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, class of 1947 and then earned his Master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania, class of 1949. He also was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity, class of 1942.
Fred was employed as an Electrical Engineer by Rohm and Haas Company, retiring in 1987 after 35 years. Prior to that he worked at Honeywell.
Fred earned two patents, authored or coauthored six technical papers and coauthored a book entitled "Electrochemical Methods of Analysis." He was a member of the Instrument Society of America for over 50 years where he lectured on electrochemical instrumentation.
In World War II, Fred was an Army technician on the Atomic Bob Project servicing the fusing electronics on the two Atomic Bombs on Tinian Island in the western Pacific. He remembered how the people at the base were anxious to hear from the plane returning from Hiroshima since it was thought the plane might be destroyed by the blast.
Since retiring he had been on the Board of Directors of the Indian Valley Housing Corporation, the Board of Directors of the Salford Township Park and Recreation Commission and the Franconia Township Joint Park Commission. He also was a railroad fan.
Fred was a member of the Franconia Mennonite Church where he served on the Missions Committee.
Fred is survived by one son, Peter F. Zimmerli of Telford, Pa.; and a son-in-law, Dr. Sanford K. Lee of Redondo Beach, Calif.
In addition to his wives he was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary C. Zimmerli and Dr. Marijane D. Zimmerli-Lee; a son, Richard F. Zimmerli; a step-sister, Alice Adams; and two step-brothers, Dr. Alan Voorhees and Dr. Ralph Voorhees.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017 at Franconia Mennonite Church, 613 Harleysville Pike, Telford, PA 18969, where family and friends may meet with the family from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A memorial services will take place at 11 a.m.
Inurnment will take place at Washington Memorial Park.
