Frank Fay Quillen, born October 7, 1931, in Harrington, DE to the late Harry and Cora Quillen, passed from this life on Sunday, December 1, 2024.
Raised in Harrington where he lived the majority of his life, he joined the Army after attending Harrington School. Upon his return, he worked for Bond Bread, continued his career as a horseman, and became an auctioneer working for himself and Fasig-Tipton. As an auctioneer, he cherished being called Colonel and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. He used his auctioneer skills to secure funds for various organizations, such as the American Federation of Women's Auxiliary, Kiwanis, Lion's Club, SPCA, to name a few. A lifelong horseman, Frank owned, trained, and drove standardbred horses, "Adios Frank" being his most successful horse. Frank never met a stranger and used his creative imagination to tell colorful stories.
Frank was a Mason, member of the American Legion, Harrington Moose, US Trotting Association, Avon Club, Board member of Harvest Years Senior Center and a lifelong member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Cora Quillen; brothers, Harry and Hayward and their wives Louise and Amanda; brothers, Representative George Robert (Bobby) and Francis; sister, Grace Wanda; nephew, Christopher; and longtime companion, Edie Hemphill.
Surviving are his two daughters, Renee Quillen-Knox (David) and Thea Quillen; grandchildren, Theo Knox, August Knox, and Haley Quillen-Knox; a sister-in-law, Joan Quillen; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Special thanks and gratitude to his earthly angels Sarah, Jim and Debbie, Debbi, Maryann, and Mona.
Hopefully, Frank is with the redheaded woman he has been searching for, for many years.
Services will be private and at a later date.
