Prettyman, 75 Georgetown - Francis H. Prettyman, 75, of Georgetown passed away on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. Francis was born January 29, 1940, the son of the late Melvin and Molly (Massey) Prettyman. A graduate of Georgetown High School, Class of 1959, he went on to operate the family owned businesses; Prettyman's Garage and Melvin Prettyman Farms. Francis was a veteran and served with the National Guard. A founding member of the Henlopen Ruritan Club, Francis was Past President and regular auctioneer at fundraising events. In 1990, he was honored with the award of Ruritan of the Year. He was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge, and recognized with the Farmer of the Year Award in 1972. Francis was a good 'ol country boy. His loves included Western movies, Elvis music, classic country music, playing his guitar, making Martin houses, gardening and growing pole beans. Born and raised a Sussex County farmer, Francis loved his tractors and farm equipment. Every year he would vacation in Florida to watch the dirt track races with family and friends. Racing was a favorite pastime for Francis. He was very involved by being an owner, sponsor, and pit crewmember of stockcar # 39, driven by Chuck Prettyman at Georgetown Speedway. A family man, Francis was always there when anyone needed him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger brother, John. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Prettyman of twenty-eight years; a devoted son, Francis Prettyman, Jr. and his wife, Pamela; two granddaughters, Stacey Willoughby and her husband, David, Nicole Armentrout and her husband, Christopher; great grandson, Ian Willoughby; sister-in-law, Patricia Prettyman; his niece, Joann Prettyman; and nephew, John Wayne Prettyman and fiancé' Sharon. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Interment will be in Harbeson Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at Harbeson Community Hall following the funeral services.
