Frances Reed Glanden, 96
DOVER - Frances Reed Glanden, Dover, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009, in Delaware Hospice Center Milford. She was 96. She was born on Nov. 3, 1912, in Dover, to the late James and Esther Watts Reed. She was a proud member of the first graduating class of the former Middletown High School in 1930 and enjoyed attending their class reunions for many years. During World War II she worked in Security and Intelligence at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. She was past President of the Women's Civic Clubs of Richardson Park, past Safety Chairman of Delaware State Federation of Women's Clubs and life-time member of Bower's Beach Firemen's Ladies Auxiliary. Until very recent years, Mrs. Glanden would spend many months in Florida visiting with her family and many friends there. She resided at State Street Assisted Living until shortly before her death, and joined in all of their activities, especially bingo and card games. She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Grover "Skinny" Glanden; and her sister, Nina Maria Riddle. She is survived by her niece, Frances R. Foley and family of Florida; nephews, James and Patrick Riddle and families. In addition she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews of her late husband, most especially nephew, Robert "Bobby" Glanden and family of Largo, Md. Her Caregivers for the last several years, from among her many "acquired" families as she liked to call them, were Mary Grampp Brown and her husband Richard and Patricia Zern Petro and her husband Kenny. Remembrance services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Trader Funeral Home in Dover. Burial will be at the Christ Church Yard Dover. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Trader Funeral Home. The family request that memorial contributions be given to Bowers Beach Ladies Auxiliary P.O. Box 224 Frederica, DE 19946.
