DOVER - Frances Mary Hughes, of Dover, passed away at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, Monday, Feb. 9, 2009. She was 78. Mrs. Hughes was born March 7, 1930, in Madawaska, Maine, the daughter of the late Francis M. Mavor and Gertrude Michaud. Mrs. Hughes worked as a Manager for the Schwartz Theaters in Dover for several years. She was a proud volunteer Ombudsman for the State of Delaware, and a strong advocate for Disabled American Veterans. Frances was a devoted Christian and loved spending time in church. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her family and loved to cook. Her family always enjoyed the meals that she prepared. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Louis; her sister, Jean; and her grandson, Paul R. Hughes. She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Hughes; two sons, Paul R. Hughes of Dover, and John P. Hughes and his wife Edna of Worton, Md.; a daughter, Jean G. Pearce and her husband Bradford of Dover; two brothers, George and Ross; three sisters, Madeline, Mary, and Theresa; five grandchildren, Steven W., Richard L., and Georgianna M. Bromley, and Aaron T., and Ashlee A. Hughes. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street, Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the services. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Spina Bifida Association of Delaware, P.O. Box 807 Wilmington, DE 19899.
