Frances Louise Jones

ROCK HALL, Md. - Frances Louise Jones of Rock Hall died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, in Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 93.

Mrs. Jones was born and raised on a farm near Tolchester, daughter of the late George T. and Mary A. (Moore) Berger.

She was a graduate of Chestertown High School.

She was president of Rock Hall High School PTA when the cornerstone for the gym addition was laid. She also served hot lunches at the school.

Mrs. Jones was an active member in the Rock Hall United Methodist Church. She taught second grade Sunday school for 65 years, sang in the choir, directed Bible school, was a Methodist Youth Fellowship leader and available in many other church activities. Mrs. Jones was also a very active member of the Rock Hall Firemen Auxiliary, the Upper Shore Mental Health Hospital Auxiliary, and the Rock Hall Seniors.

She marched in the Fourth of July parade as Miss Statue of Liberty for many years with her husband as Uncle Sam and took turns as hostess in the Rock Hall Museum.

Mrs. Jones was a 4-H Club leader for 25 years and attended 4-H Club week at College Park as the girls club mother for 10 years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Herman Jones who died June 14, 1993; a daughter, Dorothy J. Carroll in 1987; and a son, G.E. Herman Jones Jr. in 2003.

She is survived by her children, Kay J. Glenn of Havre de Grace; Barry W. Jones of Rock Hall; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday in Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road Chestertown.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Rock Hall United Methodist Church, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Edward A. Carroll III, Jeffrey L. Carroll, William A. Carroll, David W. Glenn, Donald J. Glenn and S. Lee Lewis.

Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Rock Hall Fire Co., P.O. Box 577, Rock Hall, MD 21661; or Rock Hall United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 66, Rock Hall, MD 21661.
