Frances Berman Ollweiler, 81 DOVER - Frances Berman Ollweiler died at her home in Dover on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, after a long illness. She was 81. Mrs. Ollweiler (but everyone called her Fran) was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Dover in 1952 with her husband George, who had taken a job at Playtex. Over the years Playtex transfers took Fran (and George) to Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, and London, with returns to Dover in between. Always inquisitive and willing to try new things, Fran took up folk guitar when the family lived in Los Angeles in 1962. She enjoyed it so much that she started teaching guitar and by the time she returned to Dover in 1966, was an accomplished folk guitarist who taught many people in Dover how to play. She discovered the Internet when it was in it's infancy and quickly became very involved with SeniorNet, one of the first Web sites to deal with access to and education on computer technologies and Internet for adults age 50+. She was active in SeniorNet activities on both a regional and national basis, as well as other locally-based computer groups. Fran also developed an eye for photography, starting with film cameras and then moving into the digital age. Although she primarily shot for her own enjoyment, she developed a unique perspective and many of her photos adorn the walls of her home. After George retired from Playtex in 1988, Fran and her husband started exploring the world through ocean cruises, visiting such diverse places as the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, the St. Lawrence Seaway, and the Amazon. Fran was a member of the Century Club of Dover and was honored earlier this year for her 42 years of service. 2008 also marked the 60th anniversary of her marriage to George. Fran is survived by her husband George of Dover, and her two adult children, Ken and Sue, both of whom live in Los Angeles, Calif. Cremation services will be private and will be performed by Torbert Funeral Home. A memorial service to celebrate Fran's life will be scheduled at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Fran's name to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
