Fondella Marion Burton Dunmore

Fondella Marion Burton Dunmore DOVER - Fondella Marion Burton Dunmore slipped away into eternity on July 7, 2010, at Cardia Rehabilitation: Capitol in Dover where she been a patient for almost a month. Fondella was born July 25, 1930, in Harbeson to Idella M. Burton and Edward W. Draine. At the age of six she became the foster daughter of her maternal uncle and his wife, Thomas E. and B. Inez Burton in Millsboro. She married Francis Jean Dunmore on Nov. 11, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pa. They spent 56 happy years together until his passing on March 18, 2006. Their union produced two children, Angela J. Dunmore and Thomas J. Dunmore. Their son and daughter-in-law, Donna Dunmore, gave them two grandchildren, Thomas J. Dunmore II and Amanda J. Dunmore. Fondella and Jean lived in the Philadelphia area until they relocated to Fondella's childhood home in Millsboro in 1988. Fondella attended elementary school at Warwick 203C in Millsboro, Georgetown Junior High School, Delaware State for the 11th grade and she completed high school at Germantown High School in Philadelphia. She also attended Pennsylvania School of Business where she completed a secretarial course in 1948. She was employed at Bell Telephone as operator, at Penn Fruit as a cashier, on Jeweler's Row in Philadelphia as a clerical worker, and late back at Bell Tel as a data entry clerk and a manager in the marketing department. Fonnie's religious foundation began at Israel United Methodist Church in Lewes. After marriage she and her family worshipped at St. Monica's Episcopal Church in Philadelphia, Pa., and St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Willow Grove, Pa. When she and Jean returned to Delaware, they again attended Israel United Methodist Church. Fondella was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen both in Philadelphia and Delaware chapters, Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W., in which she held many offices, and the United Methodist Women of Israel U.M. Church, where she served at the local and conference level, and the Women's choir at church. As a retired Volunteer with R.S.V.P. she chose to work with the children in Harbor Health Nursing Home and became so well known for her reading that she was often asked to read for the annual winter party. She leaves to mourn her loss, two children, Angela and Thomas Dunmore; two grandchildren, Thomas II and Amanda Dunmore; a daughter-in-law, Donna K. Dunmore; half-siblings with whom she established a loving relationship after returning to Delaware, sisters, Nancy Seeney, Grace Jackson and husband Warren, and Linda Wright, brothers, Eugene A. Drain and wife Libby, and Phillip Draine; three aunts, Helen Cook and husband Archie, Effie DeShields and husband William, and Bertha Jones; an uncle, John R. Burton and wife Ethelda; two foster aunts, Sylvia Pinkett, and Doris Price and husband Cyril; and foster uncle, William Davis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and some wonderful in-laws from the Dunmore family. Memorial services will be held on Monday, July 19, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Israel United Methodist Church on Plantation Road in Lewes. Interment will follow at the V.A. Cemetery, Millsboro. Funeral services are provided by Miller Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donation to be sent in Fondella B. Dunmore's name to either Israel U.M. Church, 20254 Plantation Road, Lewes, DE 19958; or the Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106-2117.
