SEAFORD - Florence West Waller Ellis passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at, Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. She was born in Gumboro on May 07, 1922 daughter of the late Cornelius S. and Lillie M. Phillips West. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her siblings, Clarence, Bertha, Helen, Audrey and Cornelius.
Mrs. Ellis was raised at a time where hard work and perseverance was the objective of the day. Farming of crops such as corn, raising of livestock, churning butter, making quilts and clothes, platting rugs and fluffing feather mattresses made the days go fast, especially since there was no electricity or running water in those days. She attended a One Room School House at Lowes Cross Roads for six years before attending Laurel High School from 7th to 12th grade, graduating in 1941. For many years she worked in the restaurant industry as a Cashier/Hostess and in her spare time she made homemade peanut butter fudge, prepared excellent meals for her family and found time to create many beautiful fine stich embroidery linens.
She is survived by her children, June F. Waller (David) of Laurel, Edith M. Righter (Bob) of Ocala, Fla. and Thomas A. Waller of Savannah, Ga.; her brother, John W. West of Seaford; two grandchildren, Chris McMullen (Ashlee) and Eric Swift; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and close friends she considered family.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at 12 p.m., at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, a Member of the Parsell Funeral Family, 609 King Street, Seaford, where friends may call one hour prior to services.
Burial will follow the Services at Union Cemetery, Adams & Race Street, Georgetown.
Memorial contributions may be made to Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care of Delaware, 30265 Commerce Drive, Suite 205, Millsboro, DE 19966
