Fitzgerald 'Bill' Creighton, 84

WORTON, Md. - Fitzgerald "Bill" Creighton of Worton died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, in Chester Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chestertown. He was 84.

He was born Dec. 20, 1922, in Rock Hall, son of the late Carroll and Ruth (Fitzgerald) Creighton.

Upon graduation from Rock Hall High School, Mr. Creighton enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for four years in the South Pacific during World War II. He returned to Rock Hall and was married to Jean Mench.

He worked with Wilson, Nuttle and Raymond as a welder and with American Dredging in the same capacity. He later worked as a waterman and retired from crabbing and oystering in 1994.

Mr. Creighton and his wife spent many winters in Florida. They returned to Worton to be closer with his family. His wife predeceased him on March 22, 2007.

He enjoyed wood crafting and carved hummingbirds with working wings. He also enjoyed reading.

Mr. Creighton was a member of Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion Post 228, Rock Hall.

He is survived by a son, Jerry Creighton and his wife Harriet of Rock Hall; a daughter, Ruth Creighton of Worton; a sister, Barbara Jones of Easton; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

One stepson, the late Bobby Harvey, predeceased him.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road Chestertown, where relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown.

Contributions may be made to the Kent County Adult Day Care Center, 125 S. Lynchburg St., Chestertown, MD 21620; or the Chester Cemetery Fund.
