MIDDLETOWN - Everett Raymond Forsman of Middletown passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, in his home after a brief illness. He was 78.
Mr. Forsman was born Aug. 24, 1928, in Silverhill, Ala., son of the late Edla (Anderson) and Everett Peter Forsman.
He attended Austin High School in Chicago and proudly served his country in Korea.
Mr. Forsman began his career as a newspaper pressman in 1944 working many years for the Chicago Tribune. His newspaper career continued at The Washington Post and The Evening Star in Washington, D.C. In 1976, he relocated to Wilmington and continued to work as a pressman for The News Journal until 1989.
Throughout his life, he was a student of history and an avid reader. He especially enjoyed family gatherings in Fenwick Island. He dedicated his life to God and his family.
Mr. Forsman belonged to the MOT Senior Center, the Middletown Historical Society and the Civil War Roundtable. He was a member of the Middletown Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Forsman and Gilbert Forsman; and a sister, Edna Jacobson.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Suzanne Davis Forsman; three children and their spouses, Lynn and Kevin Stockdale of Woodbridge, Va., Jane and Sidney Phillips of Dunn Loring, Va., and Brian and Marla Hyde Forsman of Williamsburg, Va.; two stepsons, Kendall Messick of Jersey City, N.J. and Neal and Joan (Prettyman) Messick of Townsend; eight grandchildren, Alison Newcomer and her husband, Adam, Timothy Stockdale, Ramona Hill and her husband, Wayne, Scarlett Forsman, Jane Forsman, Connor Phillips, Devon Messick and Michala Messick; and his sister, Irene Jirik of Victoria, British Columbia.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Burial with military honors will follow in Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the MOT Senior Center Building Campaign, 300 S. Scott St., Middletown, DE 19709; or Habitat for Humanity, 1920 Hutton St., Wilmington, DE 19802.
