Stafford, 92
Sept. 24, 1930 - Feb. 4, 2023
GREENSBORO - Evelyn Chance Stafford passed away at home on Saturday, February 4, 2023. She was born in Easton, MD on September 24, 1930, to the late William Harold Chance and Lucy Hubbard Chance. On June 26, 1948, she married Goldsborough JW Stafford, Sr., who passed away on January 22, 2000. They met at the Preston Carnival and were married for 51 years.
She enjoyed doing volunteer work, going to yard sales, attending church, playing cards & Bingo, along with visiting family and friends. Evelyn was well known for being onery and playing jokes. She didn't think twice about embarrassing or trying to embarrass her children & grandchildren. She loved to dress up, which included fancy hats, bonnets, and red lipstick. For many years she was the mystery Easter Bunny along with being a clown and a bear.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Barbara Stafford Nashold of Denton, Maryland, and Mark Stafford of Greensboro, Maryland; grandchildren, Goldsborough J. W. Stafford III "Jamie" (Lori) of Federalsburg, Maryland, Amy Bickling (Phil) of Wye Mills, Maryland, Byron Nashold III "B.L." (Mindy) of Denton, Maryland, Morgan Stafford (David Walls) of East New Market, Maryland, and Riley Stafford of Seaford, Delaware; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Jalyn Stafford of Federalsburg, Maryland, Dylan and Colton Nashold of Denton, Maryland, Jude, Tilly and Sawyer Walls of East New Market, Maryland, Carter and Cruise Mullins of Seaford, Delaware; and her last living sibling, Dorothy Lord of Federalsburg. As well as Jo Wilson, who was her loving caregiver for many years. She had many special nieces and nephews.
Evelyn enjoyed quiet time with her beloved dogs Babe and Goldie.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Chance and Charles Chance; sisters, Catherine Chance, Betty Chance, Mary Blanch Astarita, her twin Phyllis Butler, Carolyn Carter, Jean Arnie, and Elaine Pressley; and her son, Goldsborough "Goldy" Stafford, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the St. Paul's UMC or Greensboro VFC Axillary. The family wishes to have a covered dish celebration in her honor as that was one of her many joys. Please bring your memories to share.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 9-11am at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Greensboro, Maryland. A service will be held following the visitation, starting at 11am. A burial will follow in Greensboro Cemetery.
