Evelyn Brice Wilmer, 92

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Evelyn Brice Wilmer, of Chestertown, formerly of Betterton, passed away in Chester River Hospital on March 20, 2008. She was 92.

Mrs. Wilmer was born Feb. 9, 1916, in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Walter S. and Mary Eva (Miller) Brice. At the age of six, she and her family moved to Betterton, first operating and then purchasing the Rigbie Hotel from the Turner family.

She was a lifelong member of the Betterton Methodist Church.

Mrs. Wilmer enjoyed crocheting and had many fond memories of summers at the Rigbie Hotel and her life in Betterton.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, James S. Wilmer, in 1969; a brother, Howard T. Brice; and a sister, Mildred B. English.

She is survived by four children, Mary E. Scott of Crumpton, Suzanne B. Beauchamp and her husband Donald of Hebron, James W. Wilmer and his wife Sally of Chester and Virginia W. Kerns and her husband John of West Chester, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Jerry Scott, Mike Scott and his wife Trish, Rick Scott, Steve Scott and his wife Malia, Gregg Scott, Albert Lekites and his wife Amy, Chris Kerns and Jennifer Nutting and her husband Bill; and six great-grandchildren, Michael, Alexis, Cydni, Alexandra, Georgia and Ava.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at noon in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where friends may call one hour prior.

Burial will be held privately in Still Pond Cemetery.
