Eugene G. 'Gene' Turner, 58

GALENA, Md. - Eugene G. "Gene" Turner of Galena died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, in University of Maryland Shock Trauma, Baltimore, as a result of a mowing accident. He was 58.

Gene was born Oct. 22, 1948, son of the late Ralph and Hester "Nettie" (Ford) Turner.

A lifetime resident of Galena, he was raised on Frazier's Hill Farm, east of Galena.

Gene was a 1966 graduate of Galena High School and a six-year member of the Delaware National Guard serving actively with the Army from 1968.

Gene was employed by Chrysler for 30 years retiring in 1997.

In 1990 he and his wife opened Turner's Unlimited.

Beginning small, the business grew into a Christmas and floral shop and recently adding the Galena tradition of semi-annual farm sales.

Gene had been active with the Galena Little League and had coached the GYB team.

He helped to start the Millington Swim Club, was a past member of the Galena Lions Club and Galena Volunteer Fire Co., where he had been active with the ambulance.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William "Billy" Ford.

Gene is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patricia Hayman Turner; two sons, Jeffrey Turner and his wife Tammy and Kevin Turner and his wife Natalie, all of Galena; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Wallace of Elkton, and Woodrow "Woodie" Turner of Galena; two sisters, Ruth Ann "Snookie" Dabler of Galena and Joyce Ford of Lincoln, Del.; and six grandchildren, Jessica Turner, Joel Turner, Daniel Turner, Elizabeth Turner, Callie Turner and Collin Turner.

Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Thursday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Turners Unlimited, 31395 Jim Davis Road, Galena.

Burial will be in Galena Cemetery.
