DOVER - Esther Joseph passed away Feb. 2, 2011. at Capitol Healthcare, Dover, from Alzheimers complications. She was 90 years old. Born in Federalsburg, Md., Esther was the daughter of the late Chris and Minnie Nagel. She was a Federalsburg High School graduate. Her motivating force in life was her Christian faith. She married Howard M. Joseph of Blades in 1942 and had two sons, Howard Jr. and Ralph. During their 52 year marriage Esther started the Stanley Home Products division on the Eastern Shore and owned and operated the Butterdish Gift Shop in her home on Woodpecker Rd., Seaford, for 34 years. Collecting Victorian era colored glass butter dishes was a long time hobby. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Howard M. Joseph Sr.; son, Ralph Joseph; sister, Eileen Nagel; and brothers, Coolidge Nagel, Brooks Nagel, and Myers Nagel. She is survived by son, Howard Jr. and wife Dina; step granddaughters, Denise McCarron and Cynthia Melendy; brother, Ferdinand Nagel and wife of 65 yrs. Norma; sister-in-laws Jody (Joseph) Hare, Betty Nagel, and Joanne Nagel. Esther encouraged family and friends of the elderly to recall the Malcolm Forbes quote "We love our old folks but have or think we have little time to give them. When one is quite old and has only time, a little bit more of it with friends and loved ones is the most precious gift one can receive and that we can give." A special thanks to Segrid Mills, Julia Ann Schroen, Lizzy Marine and Roland and Mary Ann Tice. Esther was laid to rest in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford. Memorial Donations can be sent to The Gideons, 60 Sackarackin Ave., Dover, De. 19901 to spread the Gospel through the distribution of Bibles. Letters of condolences can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
