HARRINGTON - Esther Chaffinch, of Harrington died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016. She was born in Dover and was the daughter of the late Eli and Annie (Schrock) Miller. Esther was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. During the early years of her marriage, she worked as a seamstress in the Harrington Shirt Factory and as a nurse's aide at Kent General Hospital. Together, she and her husband operated their family farm, initially managing dairy cattle for Pet Milk Company and later raising broilers for ConAgra and Perdue. Esther enjoyed gardening, crocheting rugs, making quilts, and listening to Southern gospel music. She was a member of Tressler Mennonite Church where she had served as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and member of the Hospitality Committee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Drexel Myrl Chaffinch; and three brothers, Ammon, Irvin, and Henry Miller. Esther is survived by her children, Deborah Chaffinch of Harrington, Michael (Carol Benner) Chaffinch of Greenwood, Doreen (Brian) Grzelak of Reston, Virginia, and Barry (Waneta) Chaffinch of Harrington. She is also survived by her sister, Effie (Sam) Yoder of Greenwood; her grandchildren, Michal, Katie, Matthew, Melinda, Justin, and Jaron Chaffinch; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. with the funeral following at 3:00 p.m. at Tressler Mennonite Church, 13371 Wolf Road, Greenwood, Delaware. Memorial donations may be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Delaware 19963. Arrangements are in the care of Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood, Delaware.
