Erving Cyrus Jefferson, 71

BRIDGEVILLE - Erving Cyrus Jefferson, of Bridgeville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, in his home. He was 71.

Mr. Jefferson was born Sept. 15, 1935, in Seaford, son of the late George Sr. and Margaret (Frampton) Jefferson.

He worked as a carpenter in residential construction for many years, retiring in 1999.

Mr. Jefferson could always be counted on as a volunteer for the social events at the Bridgeville firehouse.

He loved to drive around Sussex County, taking note of the ongoing changes.

Mr. Jefferson had a very generous spirit, and was always there for his family. He was also devoted to his German shepherd, Reese, who was constantly at his side.

He was a member of L.D. Club of Bridgeville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Frank Jefferson; a stepson, Larry Jester; two brothers, George Jefferson and Jack Jefferson; and a sister, Catherine Jefferson.

He is survived by his loving wife 33 years, Virginia Sue (Paxson) Jefferson; a son, Erving Jefferson of Seaford; two stepsons, Robert Bitler of Ellendale, and Kenny Jester of Georgetown; a stepdaughter, Catherine Smoot of Bridgeville; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Tommy Jefferson, Robert Jefferson, William Jefferson and Richard Jefferson, all of Bridgeville.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday in Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville.

Funeral services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 1151 Walker Road, Suite 202, Dover, DE 19901.
