Ernest R. "Pop Pop Fisher" Fisher, 81
MAGNOLIA - Ernest R. Fisher, "Pop Pop Fisher," of Magnolia passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover with his son, Ron by his side. He was 81.
Mr. Fisher was born on Dec. 5, 1925, in New York, son of the late Richard and Eliza (Hodson) Fisher.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart for southern Delaware. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Moose and the Elks Lodge. He was a great help to veterans with healthcare and benefits needs.
Mr. Fisher was a U.S. Army Ranger, 82nd Airborne parachute demolition squadron. He served in the Normandy Invasion to the battle of the Bulge during World War II. He also did service in the Korean War. He received the Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts for his service to his county.
Mr. Fisher worked with the International Brotherhood of Boiler Makers from 1953 to 1992. He worked and traveled the world repairing boilers, nuclear power plants and water towers. He was a major fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and watched every game. He was in attendance at the 1980 Super Bowl with the Eagles in New Orleans.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Rachel J. Fisher in 2001.
He is survived by four sons, Ernest Ronald Fisher III and Elizabeth Perry of Wyoming, Richard Charles Fisher, James Fisher, William Charles Fisher and John Richard Fisher; a stepson, Michael Nolette; two daughters, Lisa Fisher and Jan Lila Fisher; two stepdaughters, Nancy Garmache and Judy Nolette; a grandson, Lucas Fisher the apple of Pop Pop"s eye; two granddaughters, Melanie Cluart and Tracy Cluart; great-grandchildren, Amber, Haley and Mandy Cluart; many other relatives; and Frances Rydell and her daughters, Donna, Carol and Diane.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday in Trader Funeral Home, Dover.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. at the convenience of the family.
