Enos David 'David' Massey, 74

BRIDGEVILLE - Enos David "David" Massey of Bridgeville died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna. He was 74.

Mr. Massey was born July 27, 1933, to the late Harry and Mary Massey.

Mr. Massey received his education in the Camden, N.J., public school system.

He was a semi-professional boxer during his younger years in the New Jersey area, and also as a member of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Massey enjoyed bragging about his boxing bouts, and according to his reports, there were not too many boxers who could beat him, for he was right up there with Muhammad Ali.

After flying for his country in the Air Force, he finally landed in Bridgeville and it was in Bridgeville that he met and united into Holy Matrimony to Martha Mae Cannon.

From this union five children were born, and one, Marilyn Johnson, preceded him in death, as well as his wife, Martha.

Prior to his illness, David, or "Classy Massey" as labeled by his grandchildren, was employed by the former American Original Seaford Processing Co.

In addition to years of employment with American Original, he was a Neighborhood Crime Watch team member for the Coverdale's Crossroads Community, of which he resided prior to becoming a resident in the nursing home facility.

Mr. Massey enjoyed being a resident in the facility and will be remembered as being a "flirt" within the facility.

He had great favor, love and respect for the staff and other residents at DHCI.

Mr. Massey is survived by two sons, Enos (Vaughn) David Massey Jr. of Greenwood and Edward of Bridgeville; two daughters, Alfreda Massey and Nereida Massey, both of Bridgeville; nine additional children; two brothers, Charles (Susan) and Raymond Massey of Camden; four sisters, Shirley Dixon of Bridgeville, Sadie Massey, Elizabeth Cofer and Viola Massey, all of Camden; his stepchildren; his daughters-in-law and sons-in-law; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; numerous grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Victory Temple Church, Millpark Drive, Coverdale's Crossroads, Bridgeville, where Bishop David Purnell will deliver the eulogy.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Victory Temple and one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday.

Floral deliveries will be accepted from noon to 6 p.m. at the church.

Interment will be in Middleford Cemetery.
