MILFORD - Emma Cross Jefferson, a long-time resident of Milford, passed away on Jan. 20, 2016. Born in Springs, Pa., Mrs. Jefferson relocated to Milford in 1930, and enrolled as a Nursing student at Milford Emergency Hospital, graduating from that program in 1933. She worked as a Registered Nurse for over 40 years in many different capacities, including private duty nursing and working as a nurse in a munitions plant during World War II. She later served as an office nurse for Dr. Laurence L. Fitchett in Milford and was a Nurse Supervisor at Jewels' Nursing Home, also in Milford. Mrs. Jefferson was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Howard Lester Jefferson. Together, they owned and operated Mispillion Boat Yard from 1952 until 1972. Mrs. Jefferson will be remembered for her love of family and nursing and her beautiful smile. On her 100th birthday celebration, she was congratulated by Governor Jack A. Markell at the party sponsored by the Heritage of Milford, where she resided. She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Judy and Donald Ingram of Milford, and Kathy and Joseph Spada of West Chester, Pa.; her three grandsons and their wives, Randy and Tracey Ingram of Milford, Craig and Traci Ingram of Greencastle, Pa, and Matthew and Amanda Spada of Baltimore, Md.; and four great-grandchildren, Lani and Lance Undercash and Myles Ingram of Greencastle, Pa., and Gerry Spada of Baltimore, Md. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 1 pm in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, where friends may call for a time of visitation from 12 noon until 1 pm.
