Elzie E. Christy Jr., 91

SASSAFRAS, Md. - Elzie E. Christy Jr. of Sassafras died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, in Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 91.

Mr. Christy was born Sept. 4, 1916, one of 20 children born to the late Elzie Sr. and Rosa (Basil) Christy.

He was a lifetime resident of Sassafras, where he worked on area farms and did construction.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in the European Theater.

Mr. Christy was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, Sassafras.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Naomi (Brown) Christy; and a son, Elzie Christy.

Mr. Christy is survived by six children, Marjorie Rowe and Cornelius Christy, both of Sassafras, Geneva Young of Warwick, Elsie Christy of Newark, Del., Gladys Brooks of Coleman and Sandra Garnett of Newark; his sister, Margaret Downes of Camden, N.J.; 27 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., where friends may call two hours prior.

Burial will be in John Wesley Cemetery, Sassafras.
