Elwood Smith Knight

CAMDEN WYOMING - Elwood Smith Knight, Jr. passed away on Thursday, July, 28, 2016 at home. He is the son of the late Elwood S. Knight Sr. and Mosina S. Knight. Elwood joined the U.S. Navy in 1947 serving his country until 1952, where he earned the USS Siapan Award. He married Mildred M. Betts-Knight, whom preceded him in death, in 2008. He was one of six siblings, all whom preceded him in death: Alan, Katherine, Grover, Donald and Dolly. Mr. Knight and his late wife owned and operated the Crystal Rug and Dry Cleaners prior to retirement. He was a member of Woodside UM Church, in Woodside Del. Elwood was proud to serve his country and served in the community for many years. He was a lifetime member of Millington VFW Post #652 and served as Maryland State Commander and Post Commander of Greensboro V.F.W. Mr. Knight was a member of the Maryland American Legion Post 14 and Post 29. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Cooties and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid NASCAR fan, fisherman and hunter and a staunch Republican. He was a lifetime member of the USO. Mr. Knight is survived by his six children: Hayden W. Klingler, Sr. and wife Connie of West Kittanning, Pa, Deb Buchert and husband Jess, of Nipoma, Calif, Jay Bruce Klingler and wife Nancy, of Felton, Dale Robin Knight and wife Karen, of Felton, Elwood Lane Knight and wife Connie of, Felton, and Edward Gary Knight and wife Elvina, of Felton. Also, 16 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton, Del., where friends may call for a viewing from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday night. Interment will be Sharon Hills Cemetery, Dover, Delaware. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to the VFW National Homes, 3573 S. Waverly Rd., Eaton Rapid, MI 48827.
