Starkey, Jr., 90 MASSEY, Md. - Elwood D. Starkey, Jr., 90 of Massey, Md., died July 17, 2015 in Shore Medical Center, Chestertown, Md., surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Starkey was born on April 27, 1925 in Wilmington, Del. son of the late Elwood D., Sr. and Evelyn Ringgold Starkey. At the age of 1, he and his family moved to Massey. This is the same home he raised his family in and was currently residing. He was a WWII Veteran of the Army Air-Corp-574th Air Material Sq., including a year of overseas duty in the Philippines. Elwood was an independent truck driver, trucking farm products. He also worked at Chrysler and for 20 years with Green Giant. He enjoyed reading and gardening. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Sarah Hollett Starkey; and a sister, Betty Ruth Kenton. Mr. Starkey is survived by his children, Carol Rhoades (Jim) of Townsend, Del., Peggy Hanifee (Larry) of Galena, Md., Kathleen Leager (Allan) of Kennedyville, Md., and David Starkey (Elizabeth) of Massey, Md.; a sister, Evelyn 'Helen' Tobler of Dover, Del.; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, Md., where funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Asbury Cemetery, Millington, Md.
