Elsie Sapp Buckworth

ELKTON, Md. - Elsie Sapp Buckworth, formerly of Elkton, Md., died Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at the Delaware Hospice in Milford, Del. She was 93. A resident of Elkton for over 50 years, Mrs. Buckworth resided at Heritage at Dover assisted living residence for the past 5 ½ years. Born near Dover, Del. on July 25, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John S. and Estelle Steffy Sapp. Although Mrs. Buckworth attended Caesar Rodney High School through the 11th grade, she graduated from Middletown High School when her family moved to the Middletown area. A homemaker and mother, she was an active member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, participating in several church committees and organizations including the choir. She was also a member of the Elkton Women's Club. Besides a love of family, she enjoyed gardening, sewing and collecting antiques. She married Clinton Buckworth in 1936, and was married for more than 65 years, before Mr. Buckworth's death in 2002. She is survived by three children, Donald C. (Susan) Buckworth, Westminster, Gerald A. (Vicki) Buckworth, Dover, Del., and Sharon B. (Michael) Vecera, Marriottsville; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Emma Moore, Wilmington, Del., and Marjorie Shupard, Rehoboth Beach, Del.; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Barnes, Elkton. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Nov. 12, 2010, at the Elkton United Methodist Church, 219 E. Main Street, Elkton, where family and friends may visit one hour prior. Rev. Karen Bunnell will officiate. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City, Md.
