Elmer F. Campbell Jr., 52

HARRINGTON - Elmer F. Campbell Jr. of Harrington died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, in the Veterans Hospital, Elsmere. He was 52.

Mr. Campbell served his country in the U.S. Army.

He then became a truck driver, driving across country until he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2000. He was told he had 18 months to live, but his faith in God and love of his family helped him to beat those odds. He felt God had other plans for him, and those at the Veterans Hospital considered him a miracle. He made a difference in the lives of staff and patients, with his faith and beliefs.

Mr. Campbell was a member of the Eagles Nest Church in Milton. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgianna Dougherty Campbell; and a brother, Dayton Campbell.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Evelyn Campbell; two sisters, Cheryl Hance of Middletown and Diane Ruffini of West Grove, Pa.; his father and stepmother; Elmer Sr. and Fern Campbell of Hockessin; four uncles, Percy Dougherty of Wescosville, Pa., Fred and Donna Campbell of Delbarton, W.Va., Calvin and Rose Campbell of McCarr, Ky., and Bill and Regina Campbell of Albany, Ky.; an aunt and an uncle, Barbara and Jimmy Oliver of Boca Raton, Fla.; two nieces, Andrea Hance of Middletown and Stephanie Hance of Newark; two nephews, Christopher and Jonathan of West Grove, Pa.; and a cousin, Lois Jean Bak of Wilmington.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Price Funeral Home, 6 Dorman St., Harrington. Services will be at the Veterans Cemetery in New Castle County at 2 p.m. the same day, where internment will follow.
