SMYRNA - Ellen Sarah Dickerson of Smyrna died Monday, March 19, 2007, in her daughter's home in Harrington, surrounded by her loving family. She was 64.
Mrs. Dickerson was born in Norristown, Pa., daughter of the late Robert Furlong and Tina Ireland.
She was a registered nurse, and initially worked at the Stockley Center of Georgetown for over 10 years, and most recently worked at the Delaware Home for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna for more than 16 years. She volunteered her off time at the Stockley Center taking clients on field trips, and also volunteered at DHCI. In addition to her nursing career, she was a CPR instructor through the American Heart Association.
In her spare time, Mrs. Dickerson enjoyed bird watching, going to the slots and was an avid shopper. Most of all, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family and close friends.
She was a member of the Delaware State Education Association, which was a passion for her, and was known for advocating the rules and regulations of the DSEA.
Mrs. Dickerson attended Saint Bernadette Catholic Church, Harrington.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ramon Milburn; and a sister, Marlene Holbrook.
She is survived by a son, Daniel L. Milburn of Candor, N.Y.; two daughters, Dawn M. Curtiss of Harrington and Tina M. Rodgers of Simpsonville, S.C.; her grandchildren, Natalee Milburn, Danny L. Milburn Jr., Dalton M. Milburn, Katherine M. Milburn, Nicole R. Curtiss, Greg S. Curtiss, Christine M. Curtiss, Billy Brown and Carla S. Services will be noon Thursday in Saint Bernadette Catholic Church, Harrington, where friends may call one and a half hours prior to the service. A reception in the fellowship hall of the church will immediately follow the services.
Burial will be private Saturday in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720; or the Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
