Ellen Ross Coleman

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Ellen Ross Coleman, of Chestertown, died on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, Corsica Hills Nursing Home in Centreville. She was 87. Born on Nov. 19, 1922, in Sudlersville, she was the daughter of the late John Price and Marim Duling Johnson. Mrs. Coleman graduated from Sudlersville High School, Class of 1939 and in 1943 she received her B. A. Degree from Mary Washington College in Fredricksburg, Va. On Dec. 27, 1947, she married Robert Neal Coleman of Millington. Mrs. Coleman taught English and Social Studies at Ridgley High School, Sudlersville High School and Queen Anne's County High School. She retired from Queen Anne's County School System in 1974. She was a member of the Maryland State and Queen Anne's County Teacher's Association, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the Kent County Chapter of the American Red Cross. She is also a member of the Calvary Asbury United Methodist Church in Sudlersville. Mrs. Coleman loved to read, and enjoyed volunteering for many years at the Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital and the Magnolia Hall Nursing Home. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband in 2004. She is survived by, two sisters-in-law, Patricia Moore of Kentmore Park, and Mildred Coleman of Seaford; a brother-in-law, Glen Coleman of Wilmington; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Calvary Asbury United Methodist Church, Sudlersville, Md., where relatives and friends may call after noon. Interment will be in Sudlersville Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Memorial Fund at the Calvary Asbury United Methodist Church, P.O.
