HARTLY - Ellen Patricia Thompson peacefully left this world for heaven on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, surrounded at home by her family and closest friends. She will be missed tremendously by all who knew her. Ellen was born January 19, 1954, in Milford. Her parents, Albert S. and Madeline R. Lenox, remember how surprised they were to learn that their little chatterbox was the shiest girl in her first grade class. She soon overcame that problem and became a fast friend to almost every person she met. Ellen married her husband of 33 years, William J. Thompson, and forever changed him, broadening his horizons and infecting him with her loving and adventurous spirit. They were a wonderful and committed pair (and sometimes he wanted to have her committed). Matthew, Joshua, Rachel, Adam, and Carl were fortunate enough to grow up calling Ellen Mom. She gave her children everything she had, and in turn, they promised her to carry on her spirit of giving and love. Her grandchildren, Alex, Will, Dominick, Davin, Andrew, Madeline, Meredith, Perry, and Natalie will make sure that they do. Ellen spent her life helping others and serving God. She worked tirelessly and selflessly to change the lives of youth and those in need as she dedicated herself to her family, school and church. Ellen taught and touched the lives of hundreds of students over her nineteen years at Capital School District. Her lessons rarely were limited to the classroom or curriculum. In addition to her husband, parents, children and grandchildren, Ellen is survived by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Barbara Thompson; her children's spouses, Britt, Toni, Cory, and Kim; her sister, Joann; and a world of friends. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8p.m., Tuesday evening, Nov. 9, 2010, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 East Lebanon Road (Route 10), Camden. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 522 Main Street, Marydel, Md. Interment will be at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover, immediately following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (Attn: Memorial/Honor Program, 1 St. Jude Place Building, PO Box 1000, Dept 300, Memphis, TN 38148-0552) or Youth Ministry c/o Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (PO Box 399, Marydel, MD 21649). Letters of Condolence may be sent and guest book signed at torbertfuneral.com.
