Ella Elizabeth Dunning Carter, 76

LEWES - Ella Elizabeth Dunning Carter, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 76. Ella was born Dec. 7, 1933 to the late Edna Henry and Dewey S. Dunning in Lewes. Ella attended Lewes Junior High, after graduation she then attended Richard Allen in Georgetown. Ella was founder of Lewes Community Kids, in past years she had attended St. Paul UM Church, her family's church. Ella was an associate member of St. George AME Church, and the Millie Lockwood Missionary Society, she also volunteered with the Midway Food Bank. Ella worked for several area families as a private duty nurse and companion. Ella is survived by her husband of 53 years, Rufus A. (June) Carter; four sons, Rufus A. (Yummy) Carter III, of Milton, Hiram B. and Henrietta Mann-Carter, of Lewes, Dale S. Carter, and Jeff E. Carter, both of Lewes; three daughters, Mary Ellen Brown, of Milton, Melvina C. and Kenny Gibbs, of Harbeson, and Brenda E. Bolden, of Philadelphia, Pa.;one brother, William (Bill) Dunning, of Milton; three sisters, Elsie L. Wingo, Edna Mae Miller, both of Lewes, and Joan and Thomas Henry, of Georgetown; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Services will be 12 noon Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at St. George AME Church, 417 Park Ave., Lewes, where friends may call two hours prior. Rev. Marcus D. Briddell will officiate. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Services, Lewes.
